what is it?

Dry cleaning is a cleaning process used to clean garments and fabrics that cannot be washed with water due to their delicate nature or sensitivity to water and detergents. Despite its name, dry cleaning is not entirely "dry" as it involves the use of a liquid solvent instead of water to remove stains and dirt from the fabric. Our process utilizes organic solvents to reduce our carbon footprint.

Here's how the dry cleaning process works:

  1. Pre-Treatment: Before the actual dry cleaning process begins, dry cleaners inspect the garment for stains and spots. They may pre-treat specific areas with specialized stain removal agents to ensure better results.

  2. Cleaning: The garment is placed inside a machine that looks like a large washing machine. Instead of water and detergent, the machine uses a liquid solvent, most commonly perchloroethylene/perc (BAD) or hydrocarbon solvent, to clean the fabric (ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY). The solvent is effective in dissolving and removing greasy or oily stains, dirt, and other impurities from the fabric. Alternative solvents have come out over the years, but none have very extensive history.

  3. Rinsing and Filtering: After the cleaning cycle, the solvent is drained, filtered, and distilled to remove any impurities, allowing it to be reused for subsequent cleaning cycles. Dry cleaning is considered more environmentally friendly than traditional laundry because the solvent can be recycled.

  4. Drying: Once the cleaning process is complete, the garment is gently dried using warm air in the same machine.

  5. Finishing: After drying, the garment is carefully pressed and finished by the dry cleaner to restore its shape and appearance. This step ensures the garment looks neat and crisp, ready for the customer to wear.

Dry cleaning is particularly beneficial for delicate fabrics such as silk, satin, velvet, and garments with intricate beadwork or sequins that may not withstand the agitation of traditional washing machines. It is also commonly used for tailored suits, formal dresses, and other high-end clothing that requires professional care.

While dry cleaning is an effective cleaning method for certain items, it's essential to follow the care instructions on clothing labels and consult with professional dry cleaners for specific garment care advice.
