Baby Brady and Scanlon’s Cleaners

-Hello, all. Thanks for reading this. Let me just start with a note: I am not a writer, nor do I consider myself a wordsmith. But I figure since I can’t see my customers and interact with them as I was always used to, maybe shifting my blog to a partly personal approach could be enjoyable.-

My wife and I recently had our first child. Little Brady. Possible 4th generation dry cleaner. He’s the greatest gift we could ever receive. Look at this little munchkin! (blog continued under photo)

At 4:18 am on February 25th, this little man changed our lives. We consider ourselves extremely fortunate to have had our child prior to the pandemic reaching our area. Nevertheless, we have been very sad that close family and friends have mostly been unable to even meet him. My parents were there at the hospital, but my wife’s father was unable to be there as he lives in Virginia. Since he was about two weeks old, no one has been able to come and play with him, and see him grow. Who would have known we’d be where we are right now?

With the challenge of parenthood, combined with the daily decision making with our company, these have proven to be trying times. From mid-March until now, we have been watching intently and trying to do what is ultimately best for our staff and customers. Thinking of profit has gone out the window. We went from 26 employees to 12. We had to tell 14 employees that we could no longer pay them. Our sales were decimated and we are currently processing about 20% of average volume. We are thankful to have gotten our application into our bank for the PPP from the SBA right away and have received our funds. Due to this, our full-timers have all been re-hired and will be paid for the next 8 weeks guaranteed. Several staff members were unable to get through to apply for unemployment. We’re glad to be able to resume their wages for at least the next 8 weeks bringing us to mid-June.

I guess the zillion dollar question is what does mid-June look like? What will the rebound look like? Only time will tell. We will do our best and continue to rely on our elected officials to take care of this, properly. I thank all of you for your continued support. Maybe I will add some more blogs updating our baby’s cuteness to bring some light to your day!

Take good care of yourself and we will virtual toast to health and a great return to normal business! Now, back to tummy-time with Brady!
